Dr. Ryan Moran is Chief Executive Officer, Whitman-Walker Health System. The System is driven to position Whitman-Walker as the nation’s leader in LGBTQ-inclusive care, advocacy, research, and education. The entities within the System include: Whitman-Walker Institute, Whitman-Walker Foundation and Real Property Holdings. Ryan leads the strategic direction of the Health System using innovative partnerships, revenue models, and new business initiatives to ensure future success of Whitman-Walker.
Previously, Ryan served as Assistant Vice President, Care Transformation for MedStar Health's four Baltimore hospitals. Ryan holds a Doctor of Public Health degree (DrPH) at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, master in health services administration from Xavier University, and bachelor degrees in public policy and business administration from the University of Charleston.Â
In her role as CEO, Naseema Shafi works to implement the strategic vision, goals and initiatives of the Board of Directors. She leads and supports the growth and oversight of the health center with a focus on the provision of high-quality, affirming care that centers the community and maintains the vitality of Whitman-Walker. Prior to her current role, Shafi served as both the Deputy Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer for Whitman-Walker as well as its Director of Compliance, overseeing various matters related to corporate compliance and risk management. Shafi joined Whitman-Walker in 2007. She received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland, College Park and her law degree from the University of Maryland School of Law. She is a member of the Maryland State Bar. In 2016, Shafi was honored as a Minority Business Leader by The Washington Business Journal.
Destiny joined CareFirst in January 2020 and leads philanthropic giving and authentic community engagement strategies where people live, learn, work, play and seek care to drive measurable health improvements. This intentional alignment of business, social and health impact, with an eye toward equity, enables CareFirst to enhance members' lives and the communities it serves. Â
Her research and work are guided by a strong desire to advance health equity using authentically inclusive, empowering, and evidence-based techniques to bring our nation's most vulnerable from the margins of our society to the center of dialogue, advocacy, and power. She earned her Ph.D. in Sociomedical Sciences from Columbia University. She earned her B.A. in Sociology from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. Â
